The Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce recently announced the Giant Pumpkin & Squash Weigh Off in Ballard Park on Sunday. The free event will feature large pumpkin growers from around the region showing off the largest pumpkins in Ridgefield, according to the group's Facebook page.
"Large-pumpkin growers from the region will come together for a cash prize competition for the heaviest pumpkin, squash and longest gourd," according to the group's Facebook page. "Vendor booths will be themed to support the economy associated with this 'harvest season.' Enjoy musical entertainment and a giant pumpkin professional carving demonstration at this great fall event."
Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marion Roth said in a Youtube video promoting the Giant Pumpkin & Squash Weigh Off that she was excited to announce the first time event.
"I'm excited because we're all about growing commerce, culture and community," Roth said in the video. "Except for on Sept. 29 when we're about growing big pumpkins and having a lot of fun."
The event's lead sponsor is Ridgefield Supply and is co-sponsored by Fairfield County Bank, Ridgefield Overhead Doors, Pamby Motors and Morris Media Group, Roth said in the video.
Ballard Park is set to be converted for the festival with awards going to the growers. The first place prize for largest pumpkin is set at $1,000.
