John H. Frey, who lives in Ridgefield, turns 51 on Saturday. The businessman and politician was born Feb. 8, 1963, in Greenwich.

A member of the Republican Party, he is the state representative for the 111th House District in Ridgefield and was first elected in 1998.

In the 2004 election, he won with 68.7 percent of the vote and was the highest vote-getter in the 151-member Connecticut House of Representatives. In 2008, Frey garnered the most votes of any contested House candidates.

In June 2008, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to the President's Commission on White House Fellows.

In 2010, Frey was elected to his seventh term, garnering 70 percent of the vote against his Democrat challenger.

Serving in his seventh term in Hartford, Frey was reappointed by the House Minority Leader Larry Cafero to serve as Republican Whip.

He serves on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee; the Bank Committee and the Aging Committee, where he is the ranking Republican member. Frey also serves on the state Commission on Aging.

Frey has also been instrumental in securing state aid for local projects, including the Ridgefield Playhouse, Ridgefield school construction and improvements, the Ridgefield Veterans Community Center, the Aldrich Museum, Tiger Hollow and the Ridgefield Boys & Girls Club.

He is also a member of the Connecticut Institute of Municipal Studies Property Revaluation Task Force and the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce; is chairman of Ridgefield’s Parking Authority; and is a justice of the peace.
