Putnam County resident Kevin Willis of Southeast was arrested on Friday, Oct. 18 around 3:45 p.m. after he was found with narcotics and a firearm he was prohibited from having, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Willis's arrest followed a short investigation into threatening messages he had allegedly sent someone. While deputies questioned him, they learned he was not allowed to own firearms because of a prior felony conviction.
However, a search of Willis's home resulted in authorities finding a loaded rifle, controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia, the Sheriff's Office said.
He was also found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest from the Danbury Police Department in Connecticut, authorities added.
After his arrest, Willis was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon; second-degree criminal using drug paraphernalia; and second-degree aggravated harassment.
Willis was later arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and released on his own recognizance before turning himself in to the Danbury Police Department.
Meanwhile, an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim who had been sent the threatening messages, the Sheriff's Office added.
