It’s not really a whine-fest, however. The Rev. Kevin Zaborney launched National Whiners Day in 1986 in hopes of encouraging people to be thankful for what they have instead of being unhappy “whining” about what they do not have, according to the website.

He encourages people to go to the mall and watch people returning gifts and instead of joining in, feel grateful for what you have, the website says.

So, go ahead and whine — it’s the day to indulge. But take a minute and think about what you do have too, and whine for people who are less fortunate, says the website.
