Ridgefield To Remember Sept. 11 With Ceremony

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – It’s been 11 years since four planes were hijacked and crashed, killing thousands of people. Ridgefield will remember the loss in a memorial ceremony.

The ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the town's 9/11 Memorial, which is located in the front field of Ridgefield Parks and Recreation.

The memorial was dedicated last year for the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks. The steel beam was brought to Ridgefield from the wreckage of the Twin Towers.

Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi will welcome attendees after a performance by an alto saxophonist and the Ridgefield Police Honor Guard and Volunteer Fire Department Color Guard.

The ceremony will also include performances from William Joyner, Tom Elliot and Daniela Sikora as well as the Ridgefield Chorale.

The Rev. Whitney Altopp of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Pastor Dan Keaton of Ridgefield Baptist Church, the Rev. Laurence Bronkiewicz of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church and Rabbi Eric Eisenkramer of Temple Shearith Israel will all be there to lead invocations, reflections and benedictions.

All residents are welcome to attend the ceremony.
