RIDGEFIELD, Conn. The concern of parents for their children's well-being is universal and the Ridgefield Playhouse is featuring the documentary Bully as a part of its Get Real Series on Oct. 4 for National Anti-Bullying Month.
Director Lee Hirschs film, Bully, is a portrait of what bullying looks like from the perspective of the victims with the goal to bring bullying to the forefront. Hirsch will discuss his film with the audience at the event.
Hirsch started filming Bully in the fall of 2009, shortly after two 11-year-old boys, from Massachusetts and Georgia, committed suicide following prolonged harassment at school. He spent the rest of that academic year in a handful of schools across the country, following five students and families in an effort to understand how bullying is handled within the schools.
The screening of Bully is the first of several events in the Get Real series and all are designed to be interactive and facilitate learning about bullying and substance abuse.
The series will continue with Bullying Exposed on Oct. 18, comedian ANT with his show Bullied, Bashed but not Broken on Feb. 7 and 8, 2013, and more.
