Joining Thompson at the 8 p.m. show will be special guest Teddy Thompson, his son.
Named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All-Time, recipient of the Orville Gibson Guitar Award, the Ivor Novello Award for songwriting, the 2010 Mojo Les Paul Guitar Award, a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, and a Grammy nomination for Dream Attic, Richard Thompson was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2011.
According to a recent concert review on songspace.com, the duo in concert is dazzling: “Of course, Thompson’s guitar wizardry was on display…. He somehow makes his acoustic sound like an entire band, mixing tripping folk melodies with sudden blasts of staccato rock power. His blistering take on “Valerie” gained an explosive ovation. And when he performed “1952 Vincent Black Lightning,” well, it goes without saying that it was a knockout.” And, the reviewer had this to say about young Teddy Thompson: “The second half of the night was immediately jolted to life by Teddy Thompson, who brought wiry energy and plentiful hooks along with his acoustic guitar, enlivening the audience just a few bars into his opening track...”
Richard Thompson has amassed a large body of work, comprising more than 40 albums that integrate traditional and contemporary modes. Artists who have recorded Thompson's compositions include R.E.M., Bonnie Raitt, David Gilmour, Elvis Costello, Shawn Colvin, The Pointer Sisters and The Blind Boys of Alabama.
