“You cannot talk about rock in the 1970s without talking about Grand Funk Railroad!" said David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine.
Grand Funk Railroad, the quintessential rock band, is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. After a sold-out show in 2012, The Ridgefield Playhouse is pleased that this band is coming back for another show.
The special guest is Petey Hop, a rock, blues, and country artist with a new album, "The Levee." Petey Hop had his own show at the Playhouse earlier this year.
Terra Sole Ristorante (Big Shop Lane, Ridgefield) is offering a free glass of wine with dinner the night of the show when tickets/stubs are presented. An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass (for $25 additional per person), which includes a pre-show cocktail party 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. with open bar, hors-d’oeuvre and priority parking, is available for this show by calling the box office at 203-438-5795.
This event is partially underwritten by Ace Tire & Auto Center and Connecticut Cigar Company and is part of the Xfinity Rock Series.
The fact that Grand Funk’s legacy still reigns over the Classic Rock landscape 45 years after its birth is a testament to the group’s influence and staying power. The current lineup includes original founding members Don Brewer (vocals and drums, writer and singer of the multi-million selling hit, “We’re An American Band”) and bassist Mel Schacher, “The God Of Thunder.”
Joining Don and Mel are true “All Stars:” Singer Max Carl (.38 Special), lead guitarist Bruce Kulick (best known for his 12 years with KISS) and keyboardist Tim Cashion aka Dr. Tim, who has a master’s degree in music from the University of Miami and did stints with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and English soul man Robert Palmer.
For tickets ($85), call the box office at 203-438-5795, or order online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
