RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Dr. Barbara S. Christen, an expert on Cass Gilbert, will lecture on the early 20th-century architect's achievements, including his less well-recognized philanthropic contributions.

The lecture will be on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. at the Keeler Tavern Museum Garden House at 132 Main St. in Ridgefield.

For nearly 50 years, Gilbert, architect of the U.S. Supreme Court Building and New York City's Woolworth Building, owned the site that is now Keeler Tavern Museum in Ridgefield.

While on site, attendees will have an opportunity to see Gilbert's improvements to what was his private residence, stroll in the garden he designed for his wife, and, after the lecture, meet informally with the lecturer during a wine reception. Separate fees apply for house tour and lecture/reception.

Reception attendees will also have an exclusive, first look at an exhibit of photographs of Gilbert landmark buildings by Carol M. Highsmith, who has been called "America's photographer."

Prices are as follows:

  • Lecture Only: $25 ($20 Members, $15 Students)
  • Lecture & Reception: $50 ($35 Member/Student)
