RIDGEFIELD, Conn. The Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society will be screening the health care documentary Escape Fire on Sept. 29.
Health care professionals Dr. Pamela Ross, Dr. Richard Niemtzow and Victoria Veltri from the Connecticut Office of the Healthcare Advocate will be on hand after the viewing for a question-and-answer session. The session will be hosted by Ridgefield resident Ira Joe Fisher with Dr. Mitchell Prywes acting as moderator.
The documentary "Escape Fire: The Fight To Rescue American Healthcare" tackles what is considered one of the countrys most pressing issues: how to save our broken health care system. The film shows how American health care costs are rising at a rate where they could reach $4.2 trillion annually, roughly 20 percent of the gross domestic product, within 10 years.
"Escape Fire" looks to examine the forces at play in maintaining a medical industry designed for quick fixes rather than prevention, and profit-driven care rather than patient-driven care.
This film chronicles personal stories and the battles between leaders fighting to transform health care at the highest levels of medicine, industry, government, and even the U.S. military.
