CT Man Nabbed For Robbing NY Burger King Over Rejected Coupon: Police

A 29-year-old man has been charged with allegedly robbing a Burger King restaurant in the region after his coupon was rejected.

The incident occurred in Ulster County at the Burger King on Route 9W in Highland on Sunday, July 21.

According to the town of Lloyd Polie Chief James Janson, Byron Bournes, age 29, of Hartford, Connecticut, was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 13, on a warrant.

He was charged with:

  • Two counts of second-degree robbery
  • Two counts of third-degree robbery
  • Assault
  • Two counts of criminal mischief
  • Petit larceny

Janso said at the time of the incident that Bournes, after an argument at the drive-thru window over a coupon or the cost of his meal, pushed the clerk to the floor and stole their cell phone before breaking open the cash register and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Janso said the man jumped in a white Toyota Corolla and fled south on Route 9W.

After his arrest, Bournes was transported to the Ulster County Jail to await arraignment in Ulster County Superior Court. 

Lloyd Police were assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Hartford Police Department.
