A Connecticut man is facing prison time after admitting to embezzling from his family’s company over the course of several years, federal officials announced. New Haven County resident Matthew Blackwell, age 40, of Woodbridge, waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty in federal court before US District Judge Sarah Merriam to one count of tax evasion. Acting US Attorney Leonard Boyle said that Blackwell was the Vice President of Operations at a family-owned food company based in the Town of Orange. New Animal Cruelty Case Stems From CT Dogfighting Investigation, Police Say
An investigation into dogfighting in Connecticut in July has led investigators to uncover a new animal cruelty case. Connecticut State Police reported that a search warrant was executed at 109 Britannia St. in the New Haven County Town of Meriden on Saturday, July 31. Authorities seized a number of items associated with dogfighting, including shock collars, whips, scales and more. Investigators also reportedly found a homemade dogfighting ring. A Connecticut father and son were arrested for an interrupted burglary after the homeowner spotted the duo stealing items from his garage on a video surveillance camera. Christopher Barretta Sr., age 48, and his 18-year-old son Christopher Barretta Jr, both of the Town of Orange in New Haven County, were caught on the video on Wednesday, Jan. 6 in Fairfield County, said Shelton Police Det. A police officer was hit by a car while responding to a vehicle fiery in Connecticut. Police said that a Town of Orange police officer was struck at approximately 10:06 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, when assisting with a car fire on Mars Hill Road near Outback Steakhouse.
