Smash-Grab Burglary: Suspects Caught On Video After Darien Jewelry Store Incident
Four suspects are at large after an overnight burglary at a jewelry store in Fairfield County. It happened at about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, in Darien at David Harvey Jewelers at 995 Post Rd. (Route 1). Upon arrival, officers discovered a smashed front door and scattered jewelry on the sidewalk. Numerous display cases were smashed inside the store, with jewelry strewn across the floor. Tractor-Trailer Crash Causes Hours-Long I-95 Delays
This story has been updated. There were delays of around two hours on a stretch of I-95 after a tractor-trailer crash in Fairfield County. The crash happened on the northbound side Friday morning, Aug. 21 at around 4 a.m., initially shutting down all lanes in Darien between Noroton Avenue/Exit 10 and Route 1/Exit 11. One lane reopened around daybreak with traffic backed up to Harvard Avenue/West Avenue (Exit 6) in Stamford. The highway did not fully reopen until the end of the morning commute.

Suspect On Loose After Overnight Post Road Deli Robbery
A suspect is on the run after breaking into a popular Fairfield County deli, police said. An officer from the Darien Police Department was flagged down in front of Mama Carmela’s deli on Route 1 (Post Road) at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Police said that two people told the officer that the deli had been broken into overnight. According to police, the two employees arrived at work to find that the lock on the front door had been damaged. Avoid The Area: 14 Hours Of Emergency Sewer Repair Work Scheduled For Route 1 Stretch
Due to a significant breakage issue with the main sanitary sewer line on a stretch of Route 1, approximately 14 hours of emergency sewer repair work has been scheduled in Darien. Contractors working for the Town of Darien Department of Public Works will be performing the replacement work on Tuesday, May 14 in the area of Post Road and Birch Road, starting at approximately 6 a.m. The work is expected to go until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, Darien Police said. Dog Bites Route 1 Jogger While Owner Talks On Phone, Police Say
A man was bitten by a dog while jogging on the sidewalk of Route 1 (Post Road), Darien Police say. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22. A female with a dog on a leash was walking toward the jogger. He allegedly had to move from the sidewalk to the road to avoid the dog. As he passed, the dog lunged at him and bit him in the hamstring. The victim also said that the dog’s owner was on the phone at the time of the incident and didn’t initially realize that he had been bitten. Crash Causes Lengthy Delays On I-95
This story has been updated. The Labor Day weekend started off with a crawl -- on a stretch of I-95 in Fairfield County, at least. A serious crash initially took out the right lane on the southbound side in Darien between Noroton Avenue (Exit 10) and Route 1/Post Road (Exit 9). There was stopped traffic at the scene and stop-and-go delays of about a half-hour to Exit 13 after the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. There were residual delays after the lane reopened about an hour later.
