A new study has found widespread COVID-19 infections among deer populations in Iowa. Researchers from the Penn State University found that more than 80 percent of white-tailed deer sampled in parts of Iowa between December of 2020 and January of 2021 tested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement from the university on Wednesday, Nov. 3. “We found that 80 percent of the sampled deer in December were positive for SARS-CoV-2, which proportionally represents about a 50-fold greater burden of positivity than what was reported at the peak of infection in humans at the time,” said Sur…

Westport Resident Among Penn State Frat Members Being Sued In Hazing Case
A Fairfield County man is one of more than two dozen fraternity brothers who is being sued by the parents of a Penn State student who died during a hazing incident in 2017. Donald Prior, of Westport, is one of 28 members of Beta Theta Pi who were named in a lawsuit by the parents of Timothy Piazza, who died at the age of 19 at a party at the frat house during pledging. The federal lawsuit was filed on the day before the two-year anniversary of Piazza’s death, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury, skull fracture and lacerated spleen. Student From Fairfield County Charged With Breaking Ear Off Penn State Lion
A Fairfield County teenager is facing charges after allegedly breaking the ear off a Nittany Lion shrine on the Penn State campus, according to multiple reports. Officials said that the lion’s right ear was broken off on Feb. 24. Following an investigation, The Daily Collegian reported that Fairfield resident Matthew Ian Deutch, 19, and Broadway, N.C. resident Skylar Belden, 18, were charged with criminal mischief and tampering with evidence by university police this week.
