Click here for an updated story: ID Released For Teen Killed After Car Crashes Into Tree On I-95 A serious single-vehicle crash in which a car crashed into a tree on a stretch of I-95 has left one person dead and four others injured. It happened around 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 in Darien on the northbound side between exits 10 and 11. The person killed was pronounced dead at the scene. Two Killed After Jeep Crashes Off Road Into Ravine In Newtown
Two occupants of a Jeep were killed after it crashed off the road and into a ravine overnight in Northern Fairfield County. The crash occurred on Route 34 (Berkshire Road) in the area of Jordan Hill Road in Newtown at about 2 a.m. Sunday, June 23, said Lt. Aaron Bahamonde of the Newtown Police Department. Police say that the older model Jeep Cherokee had driven off the westbound shoulder of Route 34 into a hundred foot, heavily wooded ravine, according to police. Two Killed In Fairfield County During Storm
Two Fairfield County residents were killed and several injured as a high-powered storm system ripped through the area downing trees and power lines. A 41-year-old New Fairfield woman was killed around 5 p.m. Tuesday on Brush Hill Road when a tree fell on her vehicle, pinning her inside, said Connecticut State Trooper Sgt. Eric Haglund. Haglund said the woman's 3-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle but was not injured. Historic Increase In Hit-And-Run Fatalities Reported By AAA
AAA is calling on drivers to be more alert, and cyclists and pedestrians to be more aware on the roadways as the number of fatal hit-and-runs spiked to an all-time high. More than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads, according to research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. Connecticut Highways Rank Among Worst In Nation, Report Says
Connecticut ranks among the bottom five states in the country in overall performance and cost-effectiveness, according to this new report released by a libertarian think tank. The Reason Foundation published its 23rd Annual Highway Report on Thursday, Feb. 8. It ranked Connecticut among the bottom 10 states in five of eleven categories used to determine the overall rankings, including urban interstate pavement conditions, total disbursements per mile and bridge deficiency.
