Sea Lion Briefly Escapes From Central Park Zoo During Rainstorm Record-breaking rainfall from a slow-moving coastal storm system resulted in dangerous flooding and travel nightmares in and around New York City on Friday, Sept. 29. But it proved to be an opportunity for a rogue sea lion named Sally, who was able to briefly escape from her enclosure at the 6.5-acre Central Park Zoo in midtown Manhattan, where around 6 inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours. Here's Time Frame For Coastal Storm That Will Bring Soaking Rain, Strong Winds To Region A powerful coastal storm system with tropical moisture will bring drenching downpours and strong winds to much of the region. According to the National Weather Service, the system is on track to arrive during the day on Sunday, Oct. 23, and continue into Monday morning, Oct. 24. Saturday, Oct. 22 will be a picture-perfect fall day with plenty of sunshine, and a high temperature in the mid 60s.
