It's A Whiteout: Nor'easter Intensifies As It Moves Into Fairfield County FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The nor'easter slamming Connecticut is growing stronger.  Fairfield County residents woke up to whiteout conditions as the storm began Thursday morning, with the entire county under a Winter Storm Warning.  By 9 a.m., the National Weather Service had issued an alert for Fairfield County that the storm is intensifying. Conditions were reported as cold, very snowy and with gusting winds.    The weather service warned of "an area of heavy snow over Southern Connecticut and Long Island," with the storm moving northwest at 50 mph. Malloy Encourages Drivers To Stay Off Roads And Stay Safe In Snowstorm FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is advising residents to stay off the roads and to be cautious, as parts of the state have been placed under a Blizzard Warning. A Blizzard Warning has been issued for New Haven, New London and Middlesex Counties until 1 a.m. Friday. Malloy activated the state's Emergency Operations Center Thursday morning. The state Department of Transportation has 634 state plow trucks and over 250 private contractor plow trucks ready to clear roads.
