NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Newtown High School has set up a GoFundMe page to help with the costs of its musical production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" this spring.
In a post at the GoFundMe page, the school said there are many costs involved in the production. Newtown High School is renting costumes that cost a total of $10,000, as it would be nearly impossible (and even more expensive) to make them, the post said. In addition, the rights, flight rigging, lighting, sound, lumber and more are costly for this musical.
The average cost of a musical production at the high school is $40,000, not including the stipends for the instructors or the cost of using the space at the high school. with the added intricacies of this show, this production may be cost even more, the school said.
So far, Newtown High School's GoFundMe page has raised $370, but its goal is to hit $10,000. To make a donation, CLICK HERE.
Ingersoll Automotive of Danbury will match $1 for every $1 raised on the school's Go Fund Me Site -- up to $10,000.
Newtown High School is asking the public to sponsor it, or to make any donation it can to offset the costs of the production. Anyone who makes a contribution will be recognized and mentioned in the school's playbill.
The production will be staged on March 16 to 19 at 7 p.m.; and March 19 and 20 at 2 p.m., at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook.
The beloved musical tells the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is a selfish and unkind young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end. But time is running out. The Beast must learn his lesson soon or he and his household will be doomed forever.
