New Director Of Athletics Takes The Reins For Bethel School District

BETHEL, Conn. -- The Bethel Public School District has appointed Mark Caron as its new director of athletics, a position left vacant by Frank Tattoo who took a position with the Stratford Public Schools as an assistant principal.

This expanded position will oversee the supervision, management and operation of all interscholastic athletic programs both at Bethel High School and Bethel Middle School.

Caron was selected from a pool of more than 25 applicants. Throughout the process, he demonstrated expertise and a clear vision for the improvement and development of athletic programs, beginning with youth organizations and continuing through college, according to the school district.

Caron has three degrees from Sacred Heart University. In 1993, he earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He earned his master's degree in teaching in 1999. Lastly, he earned his sixth year degree in administrative leadership in 2007.

Caron played varsity sports at both the high school and college levels. He has coached a variety of sports, but most notably, baseball, at the college and high school levels.

He has operated private baseball camps for students in kindergarten through grade 5. In 2014, Caron received the honor of CT Post Coach of the Year. In 2007, he received the Brian Fagan Award, which is an award recognizing emerging leaders. And Caron had been employed as a chemistry teacher at Fairfield Warde High School since 1999.

Additionally, he served as the director of student activities, overseeing all clubs and activities, budget preparation, hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff and programs. As part of his administrative internship, Caron had extensive responsibilities in athletics, affording him the opportunity to have direct experience with the daily operations of implementing an athletics program. As a coach, he has worked to creatively connect community youth programs to high school athletics.

Caron has also worked with the implementation of policy implementation for athletics and created positive relationships in developing families as partners in youth athletics. He has actively worked in developing athletes to play at the collegiate levels, including Division 1 schools. He has experience in the supervision and evaluation of staff as it relates to extra-curricular activities.

While at Fairfield Warde High School, Caron founded the student athlete leadership club, which focused on creating strong ethical student athletes as leaders. And in his role as a teacher, he served as an active member of many academic committees to improve student outcomes, including the school improvement team, NEASC Co-Chair for Organization and Leadership, a TEAM mentor, Early Intervention Team and revisions to the athletic code of conduct.
