But voters in Newtown are also set to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in a number of races that are much closer to home.
Voters can cast ballots in races for the U.S. Senate and House:
- U.S. Senate: Democrat incumbent Richard Blumenthal of Greenwich vs. Republican challenger Dan Carter of Bethel vs. Richard Lion of the Libertarian Party vs. Jeffery Russell of the Green Party
- 5th District U.S. House: Republican challenger Clay Cope vs. Democrat incumbent Elizabeth Esty
There is also a race for the State Senate:
- State Senate District 28: Republican incumbent Tony Hwang vs. Democratic challenger Philip Dwyer
- State House District 106: Republican incumbent Mitch Bolinsky vs. Democrat challenger Eva Zimmerman
- State House District 112: Incumbent Republican J.P. Sredzinski is running unopposed
- State House District 2: Democrat Raghib Allie-Brennan vs. Republican William Duff
In local elections, there are two races and two questions:
- Registrar of Voters: Democrat LeRaine Frampton vs. Republican Carey Schierloh
- Judge of Probate: Democrat Sharon Wicks Dornfeld vs. Republican Daniel O'Grady
- Question No. 1: Shall the Charter be amended to provide that the maximum number of members from any one Political Party permitted to serve on the seven-member Board of Education shall not exceed four, (the current Charter provides that the limitation is five members from any one Political Party)?
Question No. 2: Shall the remaining Charter Amendments adopted by the Legislative Council on November 18, 2015 be approved notwithstanding the results of Question No. 1?
And for president and vice president, four teams are on the ballot:
- Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine;
- Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence
- Libertarian Party's Gary Johnson and Bill Weld
- Green Party's Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka
- Or you can do a write-in candidate.
