August Wolf, a Stamford banker and another Republican, is the only other announced challenger.

The 48-year-old Carter, a former pilot for the Air Force in Saudi Arabia in Operation Desert Storm, has made his entry with endorsements from Republican Minority Leaders, Sen. Len Fasano of North Haven and Rep. Themis Klarides of Derby, reported The Mirror.

The legislators were with Carter when he made his announcement in Hartford at the Capital, according to the report.

Businessman Jack Orchulli of Darien, who ran on the Republican ticket in 2004, told The Mirror he is also considering a run.

The nomination convention will take place in May, said the report.
