According to the town, a "well-publicized" error in the state's new Department of Motor Vehicles software caused some vehicle records to go missing while others were mailed with improper addresses or reassigned to the wrong town.
"Consequently, you may not receive a tax bill from the town of Bethel," the notice reads, adding, "Please be advised, however, that under state law, all taxpayers are required to be aware of due dates and pay taxes, even if a bill is not mailed."
Vehicle tax bills were mailed last week and should have been received by Tuesday, June 28. Anyone who hasn't received their bill by that date should call the Assessor's Office at 203-794-8507 to learn how to correct the address record.
