Woman Charged With Swinging Machete During Argument In Downtown Bethel

BETHEL, Conn. -- A machete-wielding woman was charged with wildly swinging a machete during an early-morning argument early Sunday on a Bethel street, police said.

Maria Medina, 47, is facing charges of threatening, third-degree assault, criminal mischief and breach of peace. Bethel Police allege she swung a machete during a dispute.

Maria Medina, 47, of Bethel, was charged with threatening, third-degree assault, criminal mischief and breach of peace. She was held on $1,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, police said.

Officers were called to 263 Greenwood Ave. at about 2 a.m. in response to a call about a disturbance, police said. Police said Medina began arguing with and hitting a person before threatening to kill the person, police said. She then grabbed a machete from a vehicle and began swinging it wildly, police said.

Medina used the machete to also damage the vehicle, police said. The extent of the damage and Medina's relationship to the other person were not released by police.
