Police responded to the home at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The 16-year-old, who had stayed home from school, reported that while she was in the backyard, an unknown male approached her and asked how old she was, police said.
She presumed the man was a salesman and responded that she was going to get her mother, police said.
At that point, the man pushed her to the ground and ran away down the driveway toward the road, police said. He was described as a tall white male with brown hair and clean shaven. He was wearing a black button down shirt with black pants.
Police officers responded and searched the area with the help of a state police K-9 unit, but the suspect was not located, police said.
Anyone with information about this male or the incident is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department.
