Two officers responded to the state boat launch on a report of a lost hiker in the lower part of the state park, according to Newtown police on Facebook.
The hiker had no idea where he was and the information he provided proved to be inaccurate, said police.
Officer Timothy Schoen and Officer Chelsea Harold spent over two hours in snowy and icy conditions to locate the lost man and walk him safely out of the woods, according to police.
Officer Bart Lorancaitis assisted by obtaining and disseminating GPS locations to the rescuers, police said.
Sandy Hook Fire and Newtown Ambulance also assisted on scene in the rescue.
