NEWTOWN, Conn. — Newtown police have identified the 19-year-old Sandy Hook man who was killed by his own car in a driveway accident Sunday morning, according to WLAD-AM.

Ryan Fetchick was pronounced dead at the scene on Indian Hill Road when the car he was working on rolled off the jack and onto him Sunday, WLAD-AM said.

The investigation was ongoing, but it appears the death "was the result of a tragic accident," police Lt. Aaron Bahamonde said.

Family members called 911 at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 2, Bahamonde said.

Newtown Police, the Sandy Hook Fire Department, and Newtown Ambulance responded and found Fetchick lying in the driveway, he said.

Officers attempted to provide first aid/CPR, Bahamonde said.

But once a paramedic arrived, it was determined that his injuries were fatal and Fetchick was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Fetchick had been working on his personal vehicle in the driveway of his residence, with a jack lift, Bahamonde said.

For an unknown reason, the vehicle broke loose from its lifted position and rolled over Fetchick and killed him, he said.

The vehicle continued to roll down the driveway and across the road, where it crashed, unoccupied, into a home directly across the street, Bahamonde said.

The State of Connecticut Medical Examiner was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

“No words can express the sorrow we feel for the individual, his family and the first responders who tried their best to save this man’s life during this most tragic accident," he said.
