The incident occurred at about 3:15 p.m. as the seventh-grader was walking home from a bus stop in the Woodlawn Drive area of Chimney Heights, according to WLAD-AM.
A black sedan approached the student and asked whether she needed a ride home, police said. She declined, but and the driver demanded that she get into the car, police said.
The girl fled the scene and was not physically contacted by the driver, police said.
The driver was described as a 40-year-old while man with slicked-back black hair and clean shaven, with a muscular build and a deep voice, police said.
School Superintendent Christine Carver said the bus company has been notified about the incident, and drivers are on alert, according to the News-Times.
Since most students now have cellphones, parents were also urged to discuss the appropriate times to call 911 with their children.
Being approached by a stranger and asked to enter a vehicle or otherwise leave with a stranger is cause to call 911, police said. Students should not be worried about "getting in trouble” for calling 911 if a situation that is of concern to them turns out to be nothing.
