Many of these reports came from people who had left their cars unlocked with keys inside, police said.

All but one of the thefts or attempted thefts happened in and around downtown, police said. Cars have either been stolen, stolen and later returned to the area, or broken into in an attempt to steal it, police said.

Police are also warning residents not to leave cars unattended while they warm up with engines running, and to report any suspicious activity to police.
