Bethel Police at the scene of the fatal shooting at 11 Governors Lane confirmed that all three victims had been shot, and a gun had been recovered at the home.
Bethel Police Officer Mike Libertini said police did not know why the shooting occurred and that the investigation was starting into the fatal shooting. All three victims were described as adults, but police said they did not know their relationship.
But WFSB-TV reported that a landlord-tenant dispute over an eviction led to the shooting.
Officers responded to the one-story gray home after receiving a 911 hangup from the location at about 2:20 p.m. No one answered when they called back nor when officers arrived, so police entered the home.
Inside, officers found the woman in the kitchen, and two men in different bedrooms, police said. One man was dead, and one had suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. The woman's injuries were described as non-life-threatening, police said. Neighbors reported seeing multiple police cars and an ambulance near the cul-de-sac just before 3 p.m. The two victims were taken to Danbury Hospital.
"There is no reason to believe anyone else is in danger," Bethel police posted on Facebook.
Neighbors knew few details about the residents of the home, which is owned by Charles Cristofalo. It was not known whether he lived in the house or was involved in the Friday incident.
One neighbor described the residents as an older man and his wife, and said they had lived there for many years. Another said the yard was not as well kept as many of the other houses in the residential neighborhood, which is located about a mile east of downtown Bethel. But none of the neighbors seemed to know them well.
One area resident described the scene as "a little disturbing," as police cars blocked off the cul-de-sac where the shooting occurred and as an NBC News helicopter hovered over the neighborhood.
Early Friday evening, Bethel police continued to block off the street and the house was surrounded by yellow police tape. The State Police Major Crime Squad was arriving on the scene to assist in the investigation.
