Newtown Teacher With Gun Gets Probation, Blames Phone Threats

DANBURY, Conn. -- Newtown teacher Jason Adams, who was arrested after bringing a gun to school in April, received a special form of probation in Superior Court on Thursday after recounting the threatening phone calls he received from conspiracy theorists after the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012, according to the Newstimes.

Adams’ attorney, John Maxwell, told court officials during Thursday's hearing that Adams had purchased the gun and received a permit to carry the weapon after receiving dozens of threatening phone calls and messages through social media from conspiracy theorists claiming the shooting never occurred, the Newstimes said .

Judge Dan Shaban granted Adams accelerated rehabilitation, a diversionary program available only to first-time offenders considered unlikely go offend again, according to the Newstimes.

If Adams completes the nine-month program successfully, the charges against him will be dismissed, the Newstimes said.

Adams, who taught eight grade at Newton Middle School, resigned in July this year without explanation.
