NEWTOWN, Conn. — Newtown officers were investigating the "untimely death" of a Westport police officer who was found dead in his Elizabeth Street home on Wednesday morning, police said.
Newtown officers responded at 6:42 a.m. for a "medical assist" at 6 Elizabeth Street and determined it was an untimely death, police said.
The man was identified as Robert Myer, 48, of 6 Elizabeth St., police said. In addition to serving as a Westport police officer, Myer was also a member of the Newtown Board of Police Commissioners.
“On behalf of Chief James Valdero and the Newtown Police Department, this day is a tragic loss for the family, friends and community of Newtown,” said a statement from the Newtown Police Department.
The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
