Newtown Parents Offer To Settle Lawsuit For $5.5 Million

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Two Newtown families who lost children during the Sandy Hook tragedy in which 20 school children and six educators lost their lives have offered to settle the wrongful-death lawsuit they filed against the town and the school district for $5.5 million each, according to the Connecticut Post.

In the complaint, the parents of slain first-graders Jessie Lewis and Noah Pozner said security measures were inadequate at the school. The offer, filed in court Monday, June 13, gives the school district and the town 30 days to accept the offer, said the Connecticut Post.

Some of the allegations in the suit include that the gunman Adam Lanza was able to get into the school by shooting through a large plate-glass window, that the school did not implement their lockdown plan during the shooting, and that the school did not train a substitute teacher about the lockdown procedures or provide her with a key to lock her classroom, added the Connecticut Post.
