Adam Lanza, 20, killed six educators and 20 first-graders with a Bushmaster AR-15 on Dec. 12, 2014, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. In their case, the families argue that although the guns can be safe if used properly, the companies' marketing strategy targets young men who may be inclined to violence, said CNN.
The gun makers had hoped to prevent the case from moving forward until a ruling had been made on whether they were protected under a federal statute. The two will meet in court on June 20 for oral arguments about whether the case should continue, added CNN.
