Heavy snow began to fall before dawn, closing schools and making for slow travel conditions.

But by late morning Friday, downtown Bethel had sprung to life as residents and businesses began to dig out — even as the snow continued to fall.

About 4 to 6 inches of snow was recorded in northern Fairfield County.

And despite the snowy start to the day, by Friday afternoon, the sun was out and and the skies were clear.
