Community Rallies To Help Family Of Newtown Musician Killed In Crash

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Friends of a Newtown man killed in a motorcycle crash in April are hoping to raise money for the wife and son he left behind.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family of Martin V. Amidon IX, who was killed on Tuesday, April 18 in a crash on Riverside Road in Newtown. Amidon, 37, was the only rider on the motorcycle when it crashed at around 5:25 p.m.

In addition to being a local 478 operating engineer, Amidon was the bass player for the Alpaca Gnomes, a rock/folk band. Following Amidon's death, fans of the band showed an outpouring of support for Amidon and the other members of the band.

"Thank you for your kindness and outpouring of support and love during this difficult time," says a post on the Facebook page for the Alpaca Gnomes. "We love you."

"Martin Amidon was a loving husband to Vicky and an amazing dad to his four year old son Marty," the organizers of the GoFundMe campaign wrote, adding that he was the main source of income for the family. "As Vicky and her son try to rebuild their lives in the months to come, they are going to need as much support as possible. Please consider donating to allow Vicky and Little Marty time to grieve and slowly restart their lives."
