This is the fire department's first year with the musical light show, and it will keep residents in the holiday spirit until Jan. 8, running from 6 to 11 p.m. each day. On Christmas Eve, the show will run overnight from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m.
The lights, set up on the fire station, 40 mini-trees and across the lawn, are matched to over 100 Christmas tunes featured over the radio station. To enjoy the sights and sounds of the show, drive down to the Hawleyville Fire Department, park your car, turn off your lights and tune into 91.9-FM, then sit back and relax.
“We wanted to do something that would delight the community, as well as raise money for charity,” says firefighter Dan Craigon.
The show had a few special nights during the season – there was a Fill the Boot for HVFD, a tree lighting and a candy cane giveaway as well as an evening dedicated to Sandy Hook.
“We believe about 30 to 60 people came around daily to see the show,” Craigon added. Toys that were donated went to needy children. Funds collected will go 100 percent to support the volunteer fire department.
The Hawleyville Fire Department is located at 34 Hawleyville Road/Route 25. It is off Exit 9 of I-84.
