The filmmakers use original testimonies and unique access to residents in documenting a traumatized community united by grief and purpose. Filmed over nearly three years, the cast of residents weave a story of community resilience.
Director/producer Kim A. Snyder has done over a dozen documentary shorts, and her award-winning feature directorial debut, the documentary “I Remember Me,” was theatrically distributed by Zeitgeist Films.
Twenty first-graders and six educators lost their lives during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012. Snyder’s film offers a look inside the homes of those who lost loved ones, as they speak candidly about their grief, anger, and disbelief over what occurred and how nothing has changed in regards to basic gun control reform.
Bereaved father Mark Barden lost his son, Daniel, in the massacre and has now committed himself to reducing gun violence. He is the co-founder and managing director of the nonprofit group Sandy Hook Promise, which works for mental health awareness and gun control initiatives it hopes will make the world safer for future generations.
"Since my sweet, little Daniel was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School, my mission has been to protect others and promote mental wellness," he said. "One of the many ways to do this is by ensuring people get the comprehensive help they need as early as possible.”
