Newtown Chef Focuses On Simple Foods, Pop-Up Restaurant Events

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Folks may know Chef Plum -- that's the name he goes by, folks, no first name necessary -- by his local "Dinner Underground" pop-up meals in Newtown and Danbury, as well as from the Food Network, ABC's The Taste, and Jamie Oliver's Food Tube, but what they may not know is that the longtime cook, a Culinary Institute of America grad, is also an ex-theater kid.

"I went to a very artsy high school in Richmond, Virginia where we had a massive theater program," he said. "No shame here, I wore sequins and made great jazz hands! I used to play a lot more but I do play guitar drums bass, and I try to sing."

In other words, expect some singing in the kitchen -- that is, if you catch him. Plum presently works as a private chef for area families and also does private parties, cooking classes and acts as a podcast host on Blogtalk radio Stitcher's “Plumluvfoods Live."

He advises Fairfield County residents to follow him on Twiter and instagram at @chef_plum and at youtube.com/plumluvfoods or email info@plumluvfoods.com and ask to be on the email list for information on his pop-up events. "That's the fun thing about them," he said, "They pop up!"

Plum is a big simple food fan. "Good ingredients from great people make awesome food," he said. "Here in Newtown, where I live, we have so many great farms. In season, we get some amazing things. Not to mention we have fantastic seafood here. Connecticut does not get enough credit!"
