BETHEL, Conn. — Motorists who regularly travel Route 58 near the Bethel-Redding border have surely noticed a change in the landscape.
The Putnam Park Sunoco Store, located at 124 Putnam Park Road in Bethel, has been completely razed, and the site is surrounded by a fence.
But something bigger and better is on the way to the site, located just north of Putnam Memorial State Park on a stretch of road with few businesses on it.
You may be driving too fast to read the sign affixed to the fence. Here is what it says:
"Dear Customers: In an effort to better serve our customers and the community, this location will be closed so that we may construct a new and improved store. We plan to reopen as soon as possible."
Last week a large orange backhoe was on the site, which still boasts the Sunoco sign — with no prices. With construction seemingly underway, drivers can look forward to filling up and grabbing coffee to go at the new store.
In the interim, customers who are loyal to the Mitchell brand, can visit its other locations: Mitchell Federal Road Sunoco (7 Federal Road, Danbury), Mitchell North Street Sunoco (38 North St., Danbury), and Mitchell Brookfield Sunoco (30 Federal Road, Brookfield).
