Owners Bob and Marie Schlump say their goal since opening their Newtown eatery in March, 2015, has always been to offer fresh roasted coffee and from-scratch foods made with real ingredients.

And that means some serious java. It is, after all, the restaurant's namesake.

“Our brewed coffee is made in top of the line brewers that ensure consistent coffee brewing and flavor extraction for that perfect, robust cup of coffee every time,” explained Bob, “And the milk that is steamed for espresso drinks is from Arethusa Farm Dairy in Litchfield.”

The commitment to thoughtfully prepared food is always front of mind for the Café Xpresso kitchen staff which is comprised of a CIA alum and a seasoned pastry chef -- in addition its owners’ added culinary prowess.

The real magic, say the Schlumps, begins with fresh, quality, locally sourced ingredients and artisan products.

"Our menu is a vibrant and seasonal mix of hearty sandwiches, scrumptious salads, house made soups, decadent baked goods and morning pastries, fruit smoothies, breakfast sandwiches, and our over-the-top weekend waffle menu," said Bob.

He adds that Café Xpresso slow-roasts its meats, turkeys and chickens and prepares all of the spreads and dressings in-house. Artisan breads come from the couple's favorite New York City bakeries as do the kettle boiled bagels.

Fall menu highlights and signature dishes include Pumpkin Crème Brulee Latte made with white chocolate sauce, pumpkin and vanilla spices, freshly steamed Arethusa milk, real whipped cream, caramel drizzle and house-made caramel crunchies; maple, bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a brioche roll;  and "Fat Back Jack," a sandwich stuffed with sliced ham, bacon, pepper-jack cheese, romaine, house oven-roasted tomatoes, pickles and mayo on whole grain bread.

The restaurant, open seven days a week, is located at 150 S. Main St. (Route 25), 203-304-9955, www.CafeXpressoNewtown.com/.
