“Our deadline is May 15 and so far, we have raised more than half of our needed total ($27,000) to become full time chocolatiers," said Michael Sauvageau, who is formerly of Danbury.
According to their Kickstarter campaign, the couple has 248 backers and has raised $16,019.
Noteworthy Chocolates uses lasers to engrave messages, logos and images on chocolate stationary. "We use Fair trade certified chocolate with cocoa sustainably sourced from Ecuador which has no peanuts, soy, gluten or genetically modified organisms," said Jennifer Sauvageau. "The engravings are done with a food certified laser machine that is used only for chocolate … notes are engraved on three varieties: dark, milk and white."
Married for 13 years, the Sauvageaus began their life together traveling around the country entertaining at medieval fairs and festivals. "I am a lifelong juggler and toy inventor and Jennifer is the entrepreneur in the family … we are both lovers of playful things and most of all, chocolate,” said Michael Sauvageau.
The idea came to Michael Sauvageau when he was returning from an expo at the Javits Center and everyone was giving out chocolate favors. "I started thinking what novel things could be done with chocolate and how it could be personalized … voila, Noteworthy Chocolates,” he said.
After months of research, they were able to test their ideas on a laser at Danbury’s Hackerspace, which served as the incubator for the idea. “Everyone loves the concept of chocolate messages so now it's time turn it into a full-fledged business … that’s where Kickstarter comes in," Michael Sauvageau said.
“Kickstarter is a unique crowd funder because contributors are rewarded for their contributions and unlike many programs, if the total is not reached, money is refunded,” he adds.
