Bethel Art Space Adds 'Spark' To Greenwood Avenue

BETHEL, Conn. -- There's a lot of creative energy in Bethel -- think Bethel Arts, Molten Java, Gilleoghan Irish Dance, Bethel Photoworks, Frank Kara Studio, Movie Box Studios and Bethel Cinema, to name a few. Add to that its newest addition, Spark Arts.

Open since April and run by Erin Volpintesta, the mission behind the space, is to have a local place where folks of all ages interested in performing and fine arts can further their artistic journeys and abilities.

Volpintesta also wants it to be a gathering place for recitals, art shows, movie nights, and birthdays. "Basically, anything arts," she said.

Right now, the most popular acitivity is the dancing classes (ballet, pre-ballet, creative movement, tap, lyrical, hiphop, jazz, salsa, tango and belly dance). She is also booking a lot of personalized art, music, theater, and dance birthday parties.

Coming up in November: an eight-week class series on Tuesdays divided into third to eighth grade, and teen to adult called "Easy and Elegant Holiday Gift Making" beginning Nov. 10.

Every week students will learn a new skill (sewing, painting, beading, etc) and incorporate it into a project that can be used for holiday gift giving. There will also be a Hanukkah Craft and Cultural party on Saturday, Dec. 5 and a Santa Photo Shoot (no date/time set on that yet).

"Greenwood Avenue is really starting to light up with various art galleries, art school and dance schools and it's so exciting to have an abundance of creative energy in Bethel’s infrastructure," said Volpintesta.

"The arts and humanity is what brings a town together and sets it apart from other areas. I want to live in a place that nourishes creativity and has artistic outlets and opportunities for myself and my children. Bethel is that!"

Spark Arts Bethel is located at 137 Greenwood Ave., (203) 456-3651, www.sparkartsbethel.com/.
