A Superior Court jury has convicted a former town of Fairfield official of illegally receiving and disposing of solid waste without a permit. Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin announced on Wednesday, May 3 convicted Scott Bartlett, age 60, of Fairfield, of eight felony counts following a lengthy investigation by Fairfield Police and the State Attorney's Office into illegal dumping on town property. Some schools in Connecticut were forced to close on Monday, Jan. 31 as the state continues to clean up from the weekend storm that dumped more than a foot of snow in certain parts of the region. Following a two-year investigation, two Fairfield Public Works employees and the owner of an area construction company have been arrested for alleged illegal dumping. A 15-year-old Stratford juvenile was arrested after he stole a dump truck from the Stratford Public Works property and then took police on a high-speed chase. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, when Stratford Police officers located the stolen vehicle as it was being driven through the Home Depot parking lot on Barnum Avenue, said Stratford Police Capt. Power Outages Now Hitting 27 Percent Of New Canaan
As more than 27 percent of New Canaan residents continue to deal with power outages, officials are warning that downed power lines continue to be a problem as trees tumble. A classic example of the danger could be seen Wednesday during the height of the storm when several power lines caught fire on Weed Street, putting on a show for residents until firefighters could arrive to douse the flames.
