One person was killed during an apartment fire in Fairfield County overnight. The fire took place in Norwalk around 8:15 p.m., Monday, April 18, at 14 Prowitt St. The body of a deceased person was found when Norwalk firefighters responded to the complex for a report of an apartment fire, said Deputy Chief Michael P. A house attached to the rear of a strip mall was heavily damaged during an early-morning fire in Fairfield County. The blaze broke out at 2 a.m., Monday, Feb. 28 at 172 Main St., in Norwalk. Responding firefighters encountered heavy smoke pushing from the attic of the two-story home located in the rear of the strip mall on the corner of Main and Center Avenue, said Deputy Chief Edward Prescott of the Norwalk Fire Department. The Westport Fire Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of a house fire on Compo Road South at 12:45 pm Thursday, Aug. 5, said Fire Chief Robert Yost. Two jet skiers were rescued after being stranded on an island off the coast of Fairfield County. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon, April 18, prompting the Norwalk Fire Department to respond with its fireboat on Goose Island, said Deputy Chief Steve Shay. Firefighters battled a late-morning Easter blaze that broke out at a home in Fairfield County.
