Fire Ravages Historic UConn Building On Storrs Campus Fire crews from the University of Connecticut and other agencies responded to a fire at UConn’s historic Whitney House on the Storrs campus. The fire broke out in the house, one of the oldest structures on campus, located near Mirror Lake around 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, said university spokesperson Stephanie Reitz.  The building was not currently in use and no injuries were reported, but the damage is extensive and is being assessed, Reitz said. Cause Of Death Determined For UConn Student, 19, Pulled From Icy Lake On Campus A cause of death has been determined for a University of Connecticut student who was found in an icy lake. Tianyin Shang, 19, from Shanghai, China, was found dead after being pulled from Mirror Lake on the Storrs campus on Monday, Jan. 20. The Chief Medical Examiner's Office said on Wednesday, Jan. 22, that Shang's death had been ruled a suicide by drowning. Shang was a fourth-semester math student and member of the Western Equestrian team.  Counselors are on hand for students, school officials said.
