Police in six Connecticut towns are saying “Bah humbug” to boring traffic stops. This holiday season, drivers might find themselves on the “nice” list and getting a gift card instead of a ticket.

A current Fairfield County resident formerly from New Haven County will spend years in prison for tax evasion and defrauding investors by using their funds to pay his personal expenses.
New Canaan resident Brian Hughes, age 58, formerly of Madison, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on Monday, March 6 for defrauding investors of two companies, and for tax evasion, the US Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut announced.

Stratford Woman Seriously Injured In I-95 3-Vehicle Crash, Police Say
A Fairfield County woman was seriously injured during a three-vehicle crash on I-95 that closed part of the highway for several hours.
The crash took place in New Haven County around 2:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, in the southbound lanes of the highway near Exit 61 in Madison, said the Connecticut State Police.
Anna Scala, age 77, of Stratford, was driving a 2015 Buick Verano when she was involved in a crash with a 2017 Ram pickup truck, and a 2021 Nissan Altima, state police said.

CT Nurse Admits To Tampering With Fentanyl Vials
A Connecticut man has admitted to tampering with fentanyl vials while working as a nurse.
Bryan Wilson, age 39, of the New Haven County town of Madison, pleaded guilty on Thursday, Feb. 10, to tampering with a consumer product, according to Leonard Boyle, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
While working as a nurse at The Vascular Experts, a Connecticut company that performs outpatient medical procedures, Wilson had access to a secure area where vials of drugs used as aesthetics were held, the US Attorney's Office said.

A powerful, fast-moving storm with damaging wind gusts has knocked out power to thousands in Connecticut.
At around 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, Eversource is reporting close to 3,000 outages.
The most affected areas are Guilford in New Haven County (496 outages), Stonington in New London County (387), Stamford in Fairfield County (205), Essex in Middlesex County (194), Washington in Litchfield County (164), and Madison in New Haven County (144).

Suspects Break Into Homes In Multiple CT Towns, Steal Keys, Credit Cards, Vehicles, Police Say
Police are searching for a group of suspects who allegedly broke into unlocked homes in multiple towns in Connecticut and stole keys and credit cards.
The incidents took place early in the morning on Thursday, Sept. 9, in New Haven County and included the towns of Guilford, Madison, and Branford.
According to the Guilford Police, items stolen during the break-ins included credit cards, small electronics, wallets, purses, and checkbooks, were stolen from the homes.
The suspects also stole vehicles from several homes.

CT Man Accused Of Defrauding Investors
A Connecticut man has been indicted on 17 counts of allegedly defrauding investors of an alcoholic beverage company.
Brian Hughes, 56, of Madison, was indicted on Friday, Jan. 15, following his arrest, said John H. Durham, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
The indictment alleges that in March 2015, Hughes founded Handcrafted Brands, for the purpose of raising money to purchase Salute American Vodka, an alcoholic beverage company.
After founding the company, Hughes allegedly solicited and received funds from investors for the purchase and development of Salute.

Storm Knocks Out Power To Thousands In Connecticut
The latest storm to roll through the region left thousands in Connecticut without power overnight.
Wind gusts and rain downed trees, utility poles, and wires overnight, leaving more than 25,000 Connecticut residents in the dark as Eversource and United Illuminating crews worked through the night to restore power to customers.
As of 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, Eversource was still reporting that 16,289 of its 1,281,966 customers were still without power, while UI crews were working on 11 reported outages that were impacting 144 customers.
