While fighting a blaze at a Northern Westchester residence, firefighters had to quickly evacuate the building after finding hazardous materials inside. The fire happened on Sunday, Aug. 13 around 8:15 a.m., when firefighters from numerous departments responded to a home in Pound Ridge on Salem Road (Route 124) that had ignited. An investigation into suspicious or hazardous materials led police to close an area of a popular Fairfield County beach for a short time. The incident took place in Stratford at Short Beach on Tuesday, April 26. A tent fire with several drums of toxic chemicals underneath halted production at a Connecticut Pepperidge Farm bakery plant. The incident took place around 4:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, at the bakery in Hartford County located at 1414 Blue Hills Ave. in Bloomfield. A busy Connecticut roadway will be closed for several days following a crash involving an oil truck that caused a large fuel spill. The single-vehicle crash of an oil transport truck took place in New Haven County on Friday, Feb. 11, on Bethany Moutain Road (Route 42) in Cheshire. The driver of a tractor-trailer carrying bottled water has died after the truck crashed off the road and down an embankment on I-95 in Milford. The incident occurred at 6:37 a.m. Friday on the southbound side of the highway between the rest stop and Exit 40, said Capt. Stephen Rabel with the Milford Fire Department. Suspicious Package Leads To Emergency Response In Westport
A call regarding a suspicious package emitting a foul odor sent Westport police officers and firefighters to a Riverside Avenue address to investigate the situation. The call came in around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, for the package that had been delivered to the address on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, said Westport Police Lt. Jill Cabana. Danbury firefighters rushed to the scene of a blaze in town before receiving a dispatch call after hearing an explosion Sunday morning. The firefighters at fire headquarters heard an explosion just before the dispatch went off, said James Gagliardo, communications coordinator of the Danbury Fire Department.
