19: New Canaan High School Students Will Switch To Hybrid Model 'Until Further Notice'
New Canaan High School will be switching to a hybrid learning mode until further notice due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the community. Superintendent of Schools Bryan D. Luizzi made the announcement in an email on Friday night, Nov. 13. The shift to hybrid modality starts Monday, Nov.16, for students in grades 9 through 12. A new confirmed case of COVID-19 has prompted a school district in Fairfield County to revise plans for the return to full in-person instruction. As the first case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) had surfaced in New Canaan, the public school system in town is now scheduled to be closed for two weeks. The COVID-19 patient has been identified by Gov. Ned Lamont as an elderly man who lives in a private residence in town. It's the third coronavirus case involving a Connecticut resident. A 17-year-old juvenile has been charged with breach of peace for allegedly posting worrisome "chatter" online that was directed at New Canaan High School.
