Four Injured In Head-On Crash In Newtown Four people were injured — some seriously — over the weekend in a Fairfield County crash, authorities said.  The crash was reported Sunday, Feb. 2, in Newtown on Toddy Hill Road, the Botsford Fire Department said. Authorities said injuries ranged from minor to severe, but firefighters provided no further details on their conditions. A nurse and paramedics who arrived at the scene were the first to help the drivers and passengers before responders arrived. They remained until paramedics whisked them away. Blaze Rips Through Newtown Home; Family Escapes Without Injury Fire tore through a Connecticut home late last night, leaving significant damage but no injuries, authorities said.  Firefighters were called to the Newtown home around 9:30 p.m. The Botsford Fire Department said everyone inside was able to escape.  Crews fought their way into the home and salvaged several personal items for the family, removing them from the home, while battling the fire.  Botsford Fire Department Firefighters from across Fairfield County responded to the fire. All crews had left the scene  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire Chief Killed Crossing Newtown Street; 2nd CT Firefighter's Death In 7 Days Fewer than eight hours after the Connecticut firefighting community buried Robert Sharkevich Sr., another senior firefighter was killed in Fairfield County, officials said.  Peter Blomberg, age 72, was crossing Route 6 near Dayton Street in Newtown when a truck crashed into him around 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, authorities said.  Blomberg served as the assistant fire chief of the Botsford Fire Department and was walking to a fire commission meeting In Newtown when he was hit, police said.
