A bicyclist in Fairfield County received a stern warning after he suffered minor injuries when he was struck by a car near a busy Darien intersection, police said. A driver was heading south on West Norwalk Road at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, July 29, when the vehicle came to a complete stop at the intersection with Post Road. A hit-and-run driver struck and injured a 14-year-old boy in Darien and police are asking the public's help in finding the motorist. The teen was riding his bicycle on Old Kings Highway South near the intersection of Locust Hill Road on Thursday, July 11 around 8:50 a.m., according to Darien Police. A Stratford teen was arrested for reckless driving -- on his bike. The incident took place on Monday, March 25, when the 13-year-old was seen riding his bicycle down the center line of the roadway near Paradise Green, causing a clear traffic hazard, said Stratford Police Capt. Historic Increase In Hit-And-Run Fatalities Reported By AAA
AAA is calling on drivers to be more alert, and cyclists and pedestrians to be more aware on the roadways as the number of fatal hit-and-runs spiked to an all-time high. More than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads, according to research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
